Memoir of a Barefoot Oracle:

A Poetic Rite of Passage

By: Jocelyn Ffriend

About the book

I wrote this poetry during some very intense initiations - from 2015 to 2020 I became a mother, my mother became an ancestor, I became a tantric yogini and completely changed my relationship to my body, to sensation, and to pleasure. These poems were birthed within me during those processes and represent the rites of passage that initiated me into womanhood as I understand it now. I am continually inspired by the human condition, by our yearning for ever more connection to ourselves and to each other, and by our divinity. I am inspired by the body and writing poetry is a somatic practice for me.

Yab-Yum

Chest to chest

Hand to neck

Pelvis to pelvis

Breath to breath

Inhale to exhale

Thank you to thank you

Heartbeat to heartbeat

Moving the room

Expansion to contraction

Like rain on dust

Or courage on trust

Being suspended

Between time and space like this

is a must
